Barry Jon Schieb finished the last earthbound chapter of his life at home with family on March 31, 2020. His socialization skills were quickly formed as the second born into a family of 5 siblings that experimented in everything from farming to car repair and trucking in Southwestern Mass. He polished the edge of his sharp mind in public schools and colleges focusing on Engineering and Business. His commanding presence was forged at the University of Vermont soccer fields (B.A.), the fields of Vietnam (1st Cav, MP), University of S. Alabama (M.S.) and the bear wrestling ring in Storyland Park. Ultimately, he was able to use these skills to help others negotiate this challenging world. It was not always with the most conventional answers. No one dared bother his little sister Lois at Searles High School in Great Barrington, MA.
He helped paper mills full of people turn closures into opportunities at Scott Paper Company/Kimberly Clark (’68-’99), retiring in the position of Pulp Mill Manager, in Mobile, AL.
Classes of people power boated more safely in Mobile, AL. And, many of our youngest generation conquered the challenge of reading a good book in Weaverville, NC with his help. He is survived by family and friends that respected the Bear of a man. They include his wife of 53 years, Jackie Castle Schieb, son Eric Schieb (wife Linda), daughter Audra Alley (husband Mark and children Reid and Taylor), brothers Hank Schieb and Mike Schieb and sister Lois Bradley.
Even though he was physically less imposing, he kept his sharp mind until the last page.
Memorial donations may be made to Jason Kendall Ray Foundation, PO Box 6326, Concord NC 28027, 704-782-6752, https://jasonray.org/give-a-gift/ in celebration of his 14 year strong kidney gift.
Due to Covid-19 a celebration of life service will be postponed.
