Bonnie Jean Smathers Phillips

Waynesville-Bonnie Jean Smathers Phillips, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 26, 2018, at The Homestead. Bonnie was born in Boone, NC on April 13, 1930, to the late Charlie "CE" and Pearl Price Smathers. Bonnie was a wonderful cook who loved people and enjoyed sitting on her front porch while talking with family and friends. She loved her church, but most of all she loved God.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Lynuel Phillips; a daughter, Barbara Sue Phillips; and all of her brothers and sisters.

Bonnie is survived by two sons, Charles Phillips (Sandi) and Jerry Phillips; a daughter, Wanda Phillips; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Chili.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 29, at Balsam Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow in Red Bank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Sunday, January 28, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations and at other times at the residence.
