Charles Thomas Bridges

Charles Thomas Bridges, age 90, of Clyde, NC passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Charles was born in Haywood County, NC on July 9, 1935, to the late Marion "Buster" Thomas and Edith Chambers Bridges.

Charles attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. After graduation, he returned to Haywood County to work with his dad at The Waynesville Mountaineer. He later became a part owner until the newspaper sold. Charles, in his fifties, went back to college at HCC and earned a degree in computer science, a field he worked in until he retired. He served as a Deacon, Adult Sunday School Teacher, choir member and youth worker at the churches he attended. Charles served his country honorably for 13 years in the US Naval Reserve.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Grace Anne Hill Bridges; daughter, Melanie Kay Bridges Mason (Tommy); sons, Charles Gregory Bridges (Renee) and Ronald Steven Bridges (Hope); grandchildren, Haley Kristen Bridges-Madden (Matthew), Sydney Morgan Bridges,Cassidy Elizabeth Bridges, Dylan Thomas Mason, Hannah Grace Mason, Melina Hope Gutierrez and Mavis Hope Edmonds; great-grandchildren, Josiah Blanton Madden and Jenna Grace Madden; and sister, Shirley Ezell (Don).

A Celebration of Charles' Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 29, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend DeVere Williams officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
