Christine Rathbone Mehaffey

“Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother & Aunt” Christine Rathbone Mehaffey, 77, of Maggie Valley, NC entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, July 23, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born in Haywood County on Fines Creek on September 12, 1938 to the late Stonewall Jackson and Fannie Burr Caldwell Rathbone. Christine had a love for her family. She loved spending time in her garden, farming and the outdoors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Robert Rathbone and deceased wife Betty Catherine Rathbone. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 53 years, Paul Mehaffey; children, Lisa Nelson and her husband, Tracy and Jack Mehaffey and his wife, Alana; sister, Ilene Ingle and her husband, Leon; brother, Hugh Rathbone and his wife, Margie; grandchildren, Rev. Dillon Nelson and his wife, Samantha and Jesse Nelson; great granddaughter, Ayla Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Christine will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Dillon Nelson and Rev. Martha Welch officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday Evening, July 26, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Garrett Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Rev. Dillon Nelson, Jesse Nelson, Chris Gibson, Brennan and Carol Mehaffey, Rev. Matthew Carver and Tyker Russell.
