

Darrell E. “Schmidty” Schmidt “Schmidty” Waynesville - Darrell E. “Schmidty” Schmidt, 62, rests in the arms of Jesus after his death on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Mary; his mother, Eldora Schmidt, of Lowell, MI; children Amanda Schmidt of Grand Rapids, MI, Bill Schmidt of Waynesville, Lisa Schmidt and Heather Schmidt, both of Michigan; four brothers, Ron (Gwen) Schmidt, of Caro, MI, Gale (Ann) Schmidt of Caledonia, MI, and Mike (Vicki) Schmidt of Clarksville MI, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, William Schmidt, and a daughter, Rachael. When he married Mary, his love for family was expanded, and he is also survived by: children, Angie Deaver of Canton, Randy (Tina) Allen of LaPine, OR, and Karen Allen, of Bend, OR; grandchildren Josh (Kelly) Deaver, Holly Deaver, Brittany Allen, Justan (Allie) Allen, Tucker Allen, and Randi Allen, and three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ryder, and Huntley. Schmidty served in the US Army Reserves for six years and worked as a General Contractor in Michigan for 18 years before moving to Haywood County, where he fell in love with the mountains and its’ people. He owned and operated Mountain View Builders for 22 years and always felt like he had one of the best crews and appreciated each and every one. He was a caring and generous man and volunteered his time, including a trip to Haiti, where he and family completed a work project at Ebenezer Glenn Orphanage, and he and Mary sponsored a child there. He was also an accomplished ventriloquist who had worked in childrens’ and teens’ ministries. The family will receive friends on Friday evening August 7, 2015 from 6 to 9 pm at Garrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11 am in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Pullin assisted by Reverend Tom Schmidt and Reverend Marcus Schmidt. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the family home in Waynesville. Pallbearers - Josh Deaver, Bill Schmidt, Mike Schmidt, Ray Chisom, Wayne Fisher, Travis Lewis, DeWayne Rathbone, Randy Allen, with Justan and Tucker Allen in absentia. Honorary Pallbearers - Brad Morello, Randy Trull, Randy Bolden, Jeremy Bolden, Mitchell Bolden, Tommy Ward, Gerald Rathbone, Marcus Schmidt, Jason Schmidt.
