David Cheesman, Sr, formerly a long time resident of Barrington, RI, died peacefully with family on August 9th. Born in Bristol, RI, many of his early years and jobs were spent on the ocean boating and sailing. This would be a passion that continued throughout his life including serving on the Racing Committee of the Bristol Yacht Club in the 1990’s. He also spent 27 years working for what was then Meeting Street School retiring in 2001 as Vice President of Finance. He was respected there for his business acumen, guiding the School through annual fundraising and times of expansion in services and facilities. He also demonstrated his sense of fun by dressing up in costume every Halloween and passing out candy to staff and students.
After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and playing the slots, which he did often with his wife Gail, who preceded him in death. His family and friends will remember him as a man of generosity, humor, and integrity in all he did.
He is survived by his sister Martha Sousa, children David and wife Amy, Wendy and Wife Suzette Mullen, Lisa Dietel and husband John, Jonathan Venditouli, and ten grandchildren. A memorial will be held in early fall.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Meeting Street 1000 Eddy Street, Providence, RI.
