David William Messer

“1949 - 2017” David William Messer, 67, of Waynesville, NC passed away February 26, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Haywood County on December 14, 1949 to the late Leonard and Jacklyn Gemin Messer. David was a 1968 graduate of Trotwood Madison High School in Trotwood, OH. He served his country honorably in the US Army during Vietnam. He was a former Haywood County Deputy Sherriff. He was Security Supervisor at the Smoky Mountain Retreat. Left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Beth Spence and her husband, Gary of Maderia Beach, FL and Susan Carrier and her husband, Al Lucas of Canton, NC; three nephews, Chris Carrier of Clarksville, AR, Brian Carrier of Camp LeJeune, Mark Carrier of Waynesville, NC; niece, Denise Parker of Charleston, SC. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 1 to 2 PM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Garrett Funeral Home. Military honors will follow visitation at Garrett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Haywood County, Haywood County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
