

David Ferguson Swain IV, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, was called home on December 25, 2025, at the age 95.
David was born on August 1, 1930, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He attended Lyons High School in La Grange, Illinois, and went to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he earned both a bachelor's degree and master's degree from the Amos Tuck Graduate School of Business. He was also a graduate of the Outward Bounds School.
David proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1955 to 1957, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. During his service, he was Captain of the USCCC Marion (WSC-145). Following his military service, David worked at Harris Bank and Trust in Chicago, Illinois and then joined David F. Swain III Co. in Oak Brook, Illinois.
A fervent Christian, David was generous in supporting many causes and organizations. He was deeply involved in his community in Oak Brook, serving as Chairman of the Planning Commission and served on the Board of Trustees. He was a found of VOR (A Voice of the Retarded) to speak out for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and a longtime member of Helping Hand.
David's faith was central to his life. He served on the Vestry of the Episcopal Church in La Grange, Illinois and later as an Elder at Christ Church in Oak Brook, Illinois. After relocating to North Carolina, he attended First Baptist Church as well as Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville. David was also an avid golfer and enjoyed reading.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rochelle; his daughter, Sheryl Wiese (Steven), of Forest Lake Minnesota; and his son, David F. Swain V of Godfrey, Illinois. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Catlin Anear (Dan) of Swannanoa, North Carolina; Nate Weise (Regan) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Heidi Muser (Ben) of Chicago, Illinois; Molly Blesi (Tim) of Detroit, Michigan; and Aaron Wiese of Forest Lake, Minnesota; as well as three great-grandchildren, Isobel, Sage and Isla.
