

Eleanor Soderstrom, of Waynesville, passed away at Maggie Valley Nursing Home on May 30, 2017. She was born in Chicago, on September 4, 1930, the oldest child of Otto and Gertrude Deitz Schwarz. Eleanor married Dick Soderstrom on October 8, 1949. Eleanor and Dick had four sons. Curt, and wife, Amy, live in Waynesville. Steve and wife, Bobbi, live in Clyde. Scott and wife, Carol, live in Darien, Illinois. Also surviving is Eleanor’s sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Gene Folkers of Waynesville. Her brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Roberta Schwarz of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, also survive. Eleanor and Dick have seven grandchildren, Molly, Casie, Krisa, Erik, Dane, Katelyn, and Kyle. They also have six great-grandchildren, Lucca, Emma, Kaison, Kruz, Kenlee, and Raelyn. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick, and an infant son, Mark. Eleanor was passionate about cooking for her family, gardening, painting with watercolor, and traveling. She also loved to sing. Eleanor will be greatly missed, but now she is reunited with her loving husband and son. Private services will be held at a later date.
