Clyde- Elisabeth “Betty” Ahrens Golden, 93 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Betty was born in Germany on July 11, 1927, to the late Herrmann and Elisabeth Imhoff Ahrens. She loved her church family at Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was the oldest living charter member. Betty retired from working with pediatrician, Dr. David Dyer, after 43 years of faithful service. After retirement, Betty continued taking care of children as a foster grandparent. She enjoyed going to the Waynesville Senior Citizens Center several times per week. Betty also had her Saturday routine of getting her hair done, going to Food Lion to buy her groceries and then going to Kornerstone Café for lunch. She also loved her neighbors at Aviemore Village Apartments. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Golden; two sons, Grover and Bill Golden; and sister, Helga Hartmann.

Betty is survived by her son, Larry Golden (Mildred); grandsons, Mark Golden (KaLee), Matthew Golden (Amber) and Will Golden (Tanya); great-grandchildren, Ensley, Harper, Abel, Hudson, Gabriel, Bubba, and Jazmine; niece, Cornelia Gutwein; nephew, Ralph Hartmann; and special cousin, Hannelore, from Germany.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Pastor Zachary Misch and the Reverend Dr. Mark Golden officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

The family would like to offer a special word of thanks to Bethany Szobody for her compassionate care provided to Betty at the solace center and her special little buddy, Matthew Szobody, whom Betty adored.

The family would also like to offer a word thanks to the staff and nurses at the John F. Keever Solace Center for their loving care of Betty.

The family would also like to thank family friends, Pat Allen and Eti Morgan.

Betty became my friend in 1971 when I was led to become a Lutheran after moving back here from Raleigh. She and Wade welcomed my parents when they followed me, and then I became friends with Bill. Funny how life works as years later Bills son, Will became friends with my daughter in middle school.
Our lives have been entwined 40+ years and we held down the 3rd pew on the left through 8 pastors. She was always happy to see me and we enjoyed our lunches at Kornerstone!
Due to exposure recently to Covid, I’m unable to be there for her service, but please know how much I loved Betty, and I’m so happy I got to talk to her several days ago due to Bethany’s kindness in calling me.

Aunt Betty and Uncle Wade were my Godparents. How I loved spending time with them and would always ask if I could stay the night. I still miss Aunt Betty's green beans. They were the BEST!
Your kindness will be missed by all that knew you.

So many memories of this sweet lady from Dr. Dyers office. She was one wonderful nurse. Anytime I saw her out, she always recognized me and called out..."Julia..there's my girl" in that sweet accent of her. She will be greatly missed
Hugs and many prayers for all of you.

So sorry to hear of Betty's passing. a dear friend and neighbor for many years growing up in Chestnut Park drive. She was an inspiration to me, to my family, as I watched so many times her care and love for her boy's and Wade. A hard worker and dedicated to be the best she could be in whatever she happened to be doing. She cared for my boys as they grew and were patients of Dr. Dryer. They knew her as the "needle" lady! To Larry, and all the family who loved her, I send my best love with the hope all the sweet memories of Betty will remain with you and sustain you.

I was one of Dr. Dyers patients ohh many many years ago and Mrs Golden was my saving grace when I would be sick, then she went on to take care of my son,and then went on to be one of MY favorite customers when me and mom opened our business.
I just loved her sooo much and will miss her just as much. God's healing and my prayers for her family .
