Clyde- Elisabeth “Betty” Ahrens Golden, 93 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Betty was born in Germany on July 11, 1927, to the late Herrmann and Elisabeth Imhoff Ahrens. She loved her church family at Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was the oldest living charter member. Betty retired from working with pediatrician, Dr. David Dyer, after 43 years of faithful service. After retirement, Betty continued taking care of children as a foster grandparent. She enjoyed going to the Waynesville Senior Citizens Center several times per week. Betty also had her Saturday routine of getting her hair done, going to Food Lion to buy her groceries and then going to Kornerstone Café for lunch. She also loved her neighbors at Aviemore Village Apartments.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Golden; two sons, Grover and Bill Golden; and sister, Helga Hartmann.
Betty is survived by her son, Larry Golden (Mildred); grandsons, Mark Golden (KaLee), Matthew Golden (Amber) and Will Golden (Tanya); great-grandchildren, Ensley, Harper, Abel, Hudson, Gabriel, Bubba, and Jazmine; niece, Cornelia Gutwein; nephew, Ralph Hartmann; and special cousin, Hannelore, from Germany.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Pastor Zachary Misch and the Reverend Dr. Mark Golden officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
The family would like to offer a special word of thanks to Bethany Szobody for her compassionate care provided to Betty at the solace center and her special little buddy, Matthew Szobody, whom Betty adored.
The family would also like to offer a word thanks to the staff and nurses at the John F. Keever Solace Center for their loving care of Betty.
