Ellen Louise Coward passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on August 20, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born in Haywood County on May 10, 1936, to the late Don Snyder and Ruby McClure Snyder. Louise was a kind and devoted woman whose family meant everything to her. She cherished her faith and was a faithful member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred E. Coward, Jr.; her son, Ron Coward; her sister, Vivian Oliver; and her brother, Bill Snyder.

Louise is survived by her sons, Don Coward and Tim Coward (Sae); her grandchildren, Heather Coward-Tague (Kevin), Chris Knecht (Kristina), and Nick Coward (Michele); five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish her memory.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church, with Reverend Brandon Mendez officiating. Interment will follow at Saunook Plott Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
