Fred E. Coward, Jr. Fred E. Coward, Jr., age 86, of Waynesville, NC passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022. Fred was born in Haywood County, NC on October 9, 1935 to the late Fred Coward, Sr. and Moody Parker Coward. Fred served his country honorably for 20 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was Past Master of Waynesville Masonic Lodge #259, a member of the Tri County Shrine Club and he was a longtime member and Deacon of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters; and son, Ronald Coward. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Ellen Louise Snyder Coward; sons, Don Coward and Tim (Sae) Coward; brother, Herbert "Cowboy" Coward; three grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Tague-Coward, Christopher (Kristina) Knecht, Nicholas (Michele) Coward; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Fred will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church with the Reverend Brandon Mendez officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Military honors and Masonic graveside rites will be held at Plott Saunook Cemetery.
