Gloria Kathleen Bishop Brightwell

Gloria Kathleen Bishop Brightwell, age 78, of Waynesville, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. She was born in Buncombe County on May 16, 1947, to the late Lonnie and Doris Bishop. Gloria enjoyed listening to gospel music and being outdoors. Most of all, Gloria loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Jerry Brightwell.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Teresa Van Rensselaer; sons, Jeremiah Van Rensselaer and Mike Adams (Sarah); Tabbitha Ross (Phillip), who she took as her own children; grandchildren, Jason (Tisha), Travis, Faith, Brookstyn, Saban, Ryan, Brookelyn, and Charlie; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Carolyna, Olivia, Ava, Aiden, Arian and Alijah; siblings, Danny and Donnie Bishop, Barbara Yarborough and Martha Robinson; along with many special nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 17, at Calvary Road Baptist Church with the Pastor John Swanger officiating. A Private Burial will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
