Hazel Catherine Hollingsworth, age 92, of Waynesville, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Hazel was born in Haywood County on April 15, 1931, to the late W.H. and Grace Farmer Hollingsworth. She went to work at Dayco Southern in 1950 and retired after 39 1/2 years of faithful service. Hazel was a member of East Waynesville Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and birdwatching.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, W. Carmel Hollingsworth, James H. Hollingsworth, Edna L. Davis, Mark E. Hollingsworth, half-brothers and half-sister, William Hollingsworth, Eva Mae Nalley, and D. Herman Hollingsworth.
Hazel is survived by her sister, Betty H. Harris; sister-in-law, Hilda P. Hollingsworth; numerous nieces and nephews; special caregivers; and her special cat, Tootsie.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 16, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
