Waynesville-James Herman "JR" Trantham, Jr., 85 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. JR was born in Haywood County on June 22, 1935, to the late James Sr. and Cumile Ledford Trantham. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and will be remembered for his ability to keep his family amused with his stories. JR was a member of Waynesville Lodge #259 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, York Rite, and Scottish Rite. He retired from the Department of Transportation after decades of faithful service.
In addition to his parents, JR was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn McClure Owen Trantham; and sister, Roxie Martin.
JR is survived by his son, Max Trantham (Kim); daughter, Vivian Revis (Johnny); step-daughters, Sherry Fish (Dewayne) and Debbie Greene (Dean); sisters, Jane Morris (Joe) and Daisy Howard; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, with one on the way.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 11, at Rocky Branch Cemetery with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating.
