Clyde-Johnny Duane Beasley “Johnny B”, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC after a long battle with cancer. Johnny was preceded in death by his father and mother, Coman and Edith Lowe Beasley of Panther Creek; his brother Roger Beasley; and his brother-in-law, Carl Kenneth Horton.
He is survived by his brother Steve Beasley and his wife, Charlene, of Sylva and their children Shelly Dul and her husband Jason and their children, Sonoma and Daniella Dul of Charlotte; and Steve and Charlene’s daughter Jessica and her husband Matt Reynolds of Macon County. He is also survived by his sister Sandra Horton of Lake Junaluska and her children and grandchild, Chad Stephen Horton of Fletcher and Carla Horton Gray, and her husband Paul of Charlotte, and their son Wilken, who was a big Johnny B fan; Brian Beasley and his son Walker of Waynesville, and Alan Beasley, of Asheville, whose father was Roger Beasley.
Johnny served his country in Germany during the Vietnam War Era and worked at Dayco in Waynesville until its closure. He attended and graduated magna cum laude from Haywood Community College in Mechanics. Johnny was a member of Love Field Baptist Church in Sylva and attended Panther Creek Baptist Church.
He was passionate about restoring classic muscle cars, especially Plymouth Road Runners and Dodge Challengers. He also loved going to car shows. Johnny was an avid coon hunter and loved farming.
Johnny was also well known for his love of walking and racking horses. He bought and trained many horses for his niece, Carla. They won 5th in Alabama at The Racking Horse World Championship. The last horse Johnny B and his nephew Wilken showed together was Generated Mark.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 3, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Ronald Greene and the Reverend Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow at Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home at other times at the home of Sandra Horton.
