

Waynesville-Mrs. Juanita Carson Tate received her wings and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 4, 2022. She was born on May 24, 1932 to the late Mary Martha Carson and Clarence Howard Carson in Marion, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her Brothers John Carson, Arnold Carson, and Robert Carson and Sister May Carolyn Carson.
Ms. Juanita is survived by her daughter, Frances C. Martin; sons, Roger (Pam), John, Leon (Meredith), and Michael (Thomasina) Tate; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
“Ms. Juanita”, as she was called by many, was one of the pillar Mothers of the community. She was a part of the Pigeon Street community where she and all the Mothers there played important roles in being there for everyone’s children. Ms. Juanita enjoyed traveling and arranged family trips to the Bahamas. She was a lifelong member of Jones Temple AME Zion Church where she held several positions over the years and attended until she was physically unable to. She was a member of the Choir, served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and was a lifelong member of the Missionary Society and was the local President. Ms. Juanita was appointed and served as the District Director for the Asheville District of Christian Education, appointed as District President of the AME Zion Conference Workers, and was presented several certificates of appreciation for her work for the Haywood County Christian Ministry. She retired from Mountain Projects Headstart Program. Ms. Juanita was always there to lend a helping hand and raised her family in the mountain town of Waynesville, North Carolina.
A Home Going Celebration will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 11, at Jones Temple AME Zion Church with Pastor Gregory Gerald officiating and Rev. William E. Staley eulogizing. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm prior to the service at the church.
