Katharine (Katie) Varner passed away peacefully at the Solace Center of Asheville, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Katie was born with a mental disability on November 3, 1943, to the late Roberta Haas Varner and the Rev. Carroll H. Varner, Jr., She spent a magical childhood in the 1950’s and 1960’s at Lake Junaluska as well as many years throughout her 80 years at the Lake.
Katie will be remembered for her big smiles and hugs as no one was a stranger to her. She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Varner Stone (Dee) of Clemson, SC, Corinne Varner of Givens Great Laurels of Waynesville, NC, and one brother, Carroll H. Varner III, (Donna) of Lake Junaluska.
