Waynesville-Linda Norene Roland Sutton, 76 passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehab. Norene was born in Swain County, NC on December 6, 1943, to the late Kelly and Nona Marie Hensley Roland. Norene was the matriarch of her family whom she loved without measure. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life and she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. Norene was very active in her church, where she adored her church family. She was a gifted singer, which was evident when she lovingly sang for her Lord. Norene enjoyed cooking for family and friends, sewing, and had a special gift for flower arranging. The family and friends who knew Norene considered her a “Jackie of All Trades”.

In addition to her parents, Norene was preceded in death by her son, Danny Keener; her daughter, Crystal Keener; brother, Willie Roland; sister, Sandy Roland; the father of her children, Willie “Bud” Keener.

Norene is survived by her daughters, Angie Queen (Teddy) Lisa Allison (Lewis) and Arianne Payne (Mason); son, Andrew Sutton (Melinda); grandchildren, Diana Watson, Melissa Ledford, Anthony Ledford, Emily Rodgers, Steven Stanford, Tyler Allison, and Amaya Reagan; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Neal Roland (Linda) and Jim Roland (Clara); sisters, Charlene Mull (Carl) and Pam Singleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, February 9, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverends Neal Roland, Steven Stanford and Frank Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Birdtown Cemetery in Cherokee. The family will receive friends from 1:00–2:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Neal,Lisa, Angie, and all the family, my thoughts are with you. This thought comes to mind today as I have smiled and cried..”Sometimes memories slip from my eyes and roll down my cheeks” .This is especially true as I think of so many late night talks and laughs with Norene. We laughed many times over our first few impressions of each other ..I thought she was hateful..she thought I was a snob 😁 only to become friends later and shared so much.
