Lois Elizabeth Fitch

Lois W. Fitch, 96, of Givens Estates, Asheville, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026 in her home surrounded by family. She was proceeded in death by her husband Daniel W. Fitch in 1999.

A native of Greenville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Louis F. Wagschal and Agnes K. Wagschal. Lois graduated from Wittenberg University in 1952 and began her teaching career in Lakewood, OH. She married Dan in 1957. The family moved to Lake Junaluska, NC in 1964.

Lois taught at Jack and Jill Kindergarten (Longs Chapel Methodist Church). In 1971 she became one of the first two public school kindergarten teachers in Haywood County, NC. She remained in that position until her retirement from Haywood County Schools in 1995.

Lois was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Waynesville, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. At Longs Chapel Methodist Church she was also active in the choir and United Methodist Women, Link 2.

After retirement, Lois enjoyed traveling with groups of friends. At Givens Estates she was a member of The Dulcet Tones, a dulcimer group that plays in harmony much like a choir. She also sang in the chapel choir. Lois loved music and travel, but she especially loved spending time with her family, sharing stories, songs and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving are her daughter, Pam Fitch Moser of Candler, NC, sons Kenneth Daniel Fitch (Robin) of Allentown, PA, and Paul Louis Fitch (Linda) of Raleigh, NC, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a large extended family.

A celebration of Lois’ life will be held on October 31, 2026, at 2 PM in the Chapel at Givens Estates, Asheville, NC.
