Loretta Gibson Moore, lovingly known as Mom, Mama, Mamaw and Aunt Loretta, passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on May 26,1941, in Haywood County, NC to Hezzie Carr Gibson and Lucille Ray Gibson and lived a life filled with love, faith, strength, and devotion to her family.
Loretta was the heart of our family — a woman who gave so much of herself to others and whose love was felt in every meal she cooked, every prayer she prayed, and every kind word she spoke. Her presence brought comfort, her smile brought joy, and her faith was a guiding light to everyone who knew her.
Loretta was preceded in death by her Parents, Hezzie and Lucille Gibson, all her siblings, Josephine Gibson, Phyllis Rhinehart, Thomasine (Marie) Eckenrod, Bobby Dean Gibson, Ray Gibson, her husband Wayne Blanchard Moore and her son, Anthony Wayne Moore. Though we grieve their loss as well, we take comfort in knowing they are now reunited as they sing and worship with our loving Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Loretta leaves to cherish her memory, the eldest daughter, Linda Moore Carpenter, Twin daughters, Karen Nicholson, Kim & (Wallace) Shuler, five granddaughters, two grandsons, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a part of her love, wisdom, and spirit, and her memory will live on through the lives she touched.
A Life Well Lived
Mom had a heart for family and enjoyed spending her time doing the things she loved most. She found happiness in spending time with her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed cooking family meals, tending her flower garden, listening to gospel music, reading her Bible, sewing, traveling, or sitting and talking with loved ones.
She built lasting friendships; she never met a stranger. She was kind to everyone she met. Her faith meant everything to her, and she lived it out through her actions, her prayers, and the way she loved others.
She especially cherished time spent with her family, and some of the happiest moments of her life were simply being surrounded by those she loved. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and love, and she will always be remembered for the way she made everyone feel welcome.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 1, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Dr. Mark Golden officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the gift of her life and the many memories she leaves behind. Her love, wisdom, and strength will remain with us always.
