Lorine worked in dress shops and as a housekeeper in Georgia, before moving to Waynesville to do the same. She loved the mountains and gladly called them home.
Lorine had a love for mankind and was ever willing to help anyone in need. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and later attended Jones Temple AME Zion. For many years, she was an assistant for the local Elections Board, and was a member of the Waynesville Women’s Auxiliary and Haywood County Homemakers. She was at one time an enthusiastic golfer who proudly broke color and gender barriers at local courses. Extremely creative Lorine loved flower gardening, cooking, home decorating and was a gifted painter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Bouknight; son, Julius Dalton; and daughter, Florine Thomas.
Lorine leaves behind her loving children; sons, James Howard and Henry Dalton; daughter, Patricia Bouknight-Hamilton and husband James; and a host of adoring grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren along with many beloved friends and family. The void felt is shared by everyone who had a connection to Lorine. She will be greatly missed and remembered by those who were blessed enough to witness her life or touched by her love.
The memory of a good person is a blessing and fodder for eternal love that does not go away. Daily they walk beside us; we carry them in our hearts, loved and dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to the Pigeon Community Multicultural Development Center, PO Box 1494, Waynesville, NC 28786.
