Louis Sasso died peacefully on October 9, 2025 in Waynesville, NC after a long battle with chronic kidney disease.
Louis was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 6, 1936 and lived in the North End of Boston. His parents were Josephine Palladino and Louis Sasso, Sr. Louis’s grandparents emigrated to America from Southern Italy. Louis attended parochial schools in the North End before attending Boston College in Newton, Massachusetts. After receiving a BS in Education from Boston College, Louis went to graduate school at Harvard University and received a MA in American History. Harvard sent Louis to Columbia University in New York City, where he earned a MS in Library Science; he then worked at Harvard’s Widener Library. Louis was recruited to head Human Resources at the Boston Public Library, where he met his current wife, Pamela Potter. In addition to being a Librarian, Louis then had a varied career as an Editor, Researcher, Book Store Manager and photographic printer.
For much of his adult life, Louis’s passion was photography. He earned a Certificate in Photography from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut in the early 1980’s. Using a large format camera, Louis participated in numerous workshops to hone his black and white photographing skills. He then migrated to digital photography and worked exclusively in color. Nearly all of his work was done out-of-doors and he enjoyed photographing natural subjects as well as windows, doors and abstractions in nature and in everyday objects. He travelled extensively with a group of fellow photographers throughout the United States. For over 25 years, Louis developed and printed his own photographs. His work has been included in several group shows in the San Francisco Bay area, in Atlanta, GA and in Norwalk, Connecticut.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Potter, as well as his children with his first wife, Mary Albanese: Christine Titcomb, Catherine Sanborn, Paul Sasso, Rachel Swanson, Ursula Munro, and was predeceased by his daughter, Louise Sasso-Ludin. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.
