Canton, NC - Marshall Geoffrey Cooper in the early hours of Wednesday, February 24th, God reached His merciful hand out to Geoff and said, "Lets Go Home". They strolled into Heaven together with joy. Later in the day, the sun shined, the air felt warm, and the sky was a a brilliant blue. All was right with the world as Geoff enjoyed his everlasting home. We miss him here but we feel blessed that he is fully healed. His kind spirit remains with us forever.
Geoff graduated from Canton High School in 1960 where he sang in different choral groups and occasionally played taps at funerals. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America receiving the God and Country award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Geoff and some fellow scouters blazed the original Asbury Trail from Lake Junaluska to Cataloochee, for which he recently received an award. He was a US Navy veteran serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Cruso United Methodist Church where he served in several capacities. He enjoyed music and different hymns, and had a very nice voice. He had a love of art and created wood carvings, sculptures, pottery, glass work, painting signs, and created some wonderful paintings. He was a Past Master of Clyde and Sonoma Masonic Lodges, and a former president of the Tri County Shrine Club. He was a member of the VVA, VFW, Patton School Alumni Scholarship committee. He volunteered his time at the Charles George VA Medical Center and for several other volunteer services.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Grover and Katherine Suttles Cooper; and his first wife, Judy Beamon Cooper.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Wright Cooper of the home; daughters, Nicole Falls (James) of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Jordan Hamby of Canton, NC; son, Trent Hamby of Canton, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Falls, Addison Brown, Bentley and Brantley Brown; sisters, Zelda Brierly of Clyde, NC, Patricia Edwards of Martinsville, VA, Lewellyn Ostergard of Waynesville, NC, and Stephen Cooper (Freda) of Asheville, NC.
Memorial Services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Garrett Funeral Home with the Pastor Peter Constantian officiating.
Masking and social distancing is required.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
