
Sylva-Mary A. Sluder, 93, died on May 9, 2015, at The Hermitage at Sylva. Mary was born in Sarah, Mississippi, on March 1, 1922, to the late Felton and Willie Mae Harrell Howe. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and cooking; always wanting to make sure everyone was well fed. Mary was a member of Ochre Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Kay Sluder; brothers, Dewey and Howard Howe, and James Kay Campbell; and two sisters, Berdie Husdpath and Orene Wells. Mary is survived by her son, Mike (Pat) Sluder; a brother, Dorse (Robbie) Howe; a sister, Jo (Buddy) Wright; grandchildren, Derrick Cunningham and Nikki Middleton; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 12, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Dr. J.D. Grant and the Reverend Earl Holden officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
