

“Loving Wife and Friend” Waynesville-Maudie Lee Brooks, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehab surrounded by her dedicated friends and caregivers. Maudie was born in Jackson County on June 3, 1922, to the late Charlie and Essie Quilliam Hall. She resided in Haywood County since the 1950’s and was a devoted homemaker, wonderful friend to many and joy to all that knew her. She enjoyed crocheting and talking about old times. Maudie was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church where she and her husband Carl served faithfully for over fifty years. In addition to her parents, Maudie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Brooks in 1998; an infant son, Jimmie Carl Brooks; a sister, Ethel Hall Sutton; a brother, Harold Hall; and a niece, Deborah Kay Sutton. Maudie is survived by her sister-in-law, Myrtle Brooks Green; her brother-in-law, Lon Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 10, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Burial will follow in Old Savannah Church Cemetery. The visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
