

“Our Special Aunt” Waynesville-Pearl Greene Riggins “Aunt Pearl”, 91, passed away, February 24, 2017, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Pearl was born in Swain County on February 9, 1926, to the late Ellis M. and Mary Messer Greene. She lived in Haywood County most of her life. Pearl retired from Dayco Industries following 35 years of service. She was a member of East Waynesville Baptist Church and attended Clyde Church of God for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton S. Riggins, her beloved little darling, of whom she was married to for 56 years; sisters, Martha Farley, Nancy Belle York-Reynolds, Thelma Phillips, Ruby Thomas and Reva McClure; twin brother, Earl Greene and brother, Fred Greene; and several nieces and nephews. Left to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews who were special and dear to her heart. Aunt Pearl was a mother to all of her nieces and nephews of whom she was kind, loving, caring and giving. She never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone she met. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Bobby Riggins, Douglas Greene, JD Bridges, Charles Greene, Dillon Greene, and friend, Robert Cutshaw.
