

Richard S. Caldwell, 80, of Clyde, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2025. Richard was born on February 22, 1945, in Waynesville, North Carolina, to Johnny Caldwell Sr. and Dollie Caldwell. He was one of six children.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Martha Marcum. He is survived by his brothers Johnny Caldwell Jr. (Susie), Kenneth Caldwell (Ann), and Clifford Caldwell (Sandra), and by his sister Judy Ray (Tommy).
Richard married Nila Jones, and together they raised two daughters, Traci Passmore (Tony) and Kim Hobson (Scott). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Haley Robertson (Jack), Jake Passmore (Olivia), Nick Passmore, and Karson Hobson, as well as seven great-grandchildren: Claire, Julia, Evie, Wyatt, Grant, Drew, and Brody.
After graduating from Crabtree Iron Duff High School, Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked in the furniture industry and later for Overnite Transportation Company, retiring from Overnite (UPS Transportation).
Richard loved his family deeply and cherished spending time with his many friends. He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing both his vegetables and his knowledge with others. He took great joy in bringing produce from his garden for everyone to enjoy.
A memorial service will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711) on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
