Asheville-Robert “Bob” Edwin Armor, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Givens Health Center. Bob was born in Manor, PA on November 11, 1927, to the late Paul and Ruth Arbaugh Armor.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy after graduating from Norwin High School in 1945. Bob married Barbara Miller, on August 25, 1950, and settled in Irwin, PA. Together they raised three loving children, Roberta, Larry, and Cindy. Throughout their retirement years they lived in Englewood, FL, Lake Gaston, NC, and Etowah, NC. Bob was blessed with many wonderful friends wherever he lived. He attended Etowah Presbyterian Church while living in Hendersonville, NC. Prior to the Givens Health Center, Bob and Barbara resided in Ardenwoods Retirement Community where they sang in the chorus and enjoyed many social activities.
Bob worked for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and eventually retired in 1980. He served as deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Irwin, PA. Bob was a member of the Shidle Lodge No. 601, Free and Accepted Masons. Early in his retirement, he served as the Commander of the Englewood Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 87. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, working in his vegetable garden, storytelling, and singing in various choirs.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Armor; brother, Donald Armor; and his sister, Betty Jones.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Roberta Miller (Robert) of Franklin, PA, Larry Armor (Robin) of Arden, NC and Cindy Kirby (Steve), of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Amanda Hawks (Darren), Elizabeth Case (Joe), Marta Finch (Jason) and Ruslana Armor; and great-grandchildren, Miller Hawks and Maren Hawks.
A celebration of Bob’s life was held for his family on Saturday at the Joan Pulliam Chapel on Givens Estates with the Reverend Tammy Bales officiating. The family would like to offer a word of heartfelt thanks to Bob’s many caregivers who treated him like family at Four Seasons Hospice and Givens Health Center.
