Waynesville-Robert “Buster” Atkins Putnam, 87, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018, at his residence. Robert was born in Haywood County on December 19, 1930, to the late George and Frankie McElroy Putnam. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch, going to Lake Chatuge, going on cruises, and cooking. Robert was an animal lover, including the birds and squirrels around his house that knew where to find a good meal, and his dog, Buddy. He always loved having his family around him.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Etta Aldridge Putnam; and his brother, David Putnam.
Robert is survived by his daughter Rosemary Sutton and her husband, David; his two sons, Charles Putnam and Terry Putnam and his wife Charlotte; grandchildren, Chris Sutton, Melanie Sutton Snare, Tracy Lee, Kendra Reeder, Jenny Kuykendall, Lindsey Putnam, Cassie Putnam, Matthew Clark, and Daniel Clark; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 22, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Wayne Price and Kenneth Rhinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chris Sutton, Jacob Leatherwood, David Kuykendall, Riley James, Kenny Aldridge, and Scotty Schulhofer. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at Robert’s residence.
