Ronald Kent “Ron” Gough, 79, passed away on December 28, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born on June 12, 1946, in Waynesville, North Carolina, to Robert Paul Gough and Bernice Cowan Gough.
A lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, Ron studied Hospitality and Hotel Management/Culinary Arts at AB Technical Institute in Asheville. His professional life reflected a strong dedication to service and community. He worked in outside sales within the wholesale food industry, supporting many of Asheville’s restaurants. He also held a real estate license and contributed to the local housing market through real estate sales. Later in his career, he transitioned into retail furniture sales, where he continued to build lasting relationships. As a Weight Watchers leader, Ron encouraged others in their pursuit of healthier living.
Ron was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Asheville. He served faithfully as a greeter for many years and was recently affirmed as a deacon. His commitment to service extended into the broader community through volunteer work with First Baptist Asheville Lunch at the Crossroads and Asheville Dining Out for Life.
He found joy in spending time with friends, whether dining out, sharing conversation at home, or enjoying everyday moments together. Ron loved being with people and lit up a room with his charisma and humor. An avid walker, he explored the mountains he cherished, often accompanied by his dogs. He also had a lifelong enthusiasm for cars, a passion for cooking, and a fondness for sixties music, especially The Beach Boys.
Ron is survived by his sister, Carol Gough. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial plaque honoring Ron is located on the family gravesite at Garrett Hillcrest Cemetery in Waynesville, North Carolina. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Asheville, North Carolina on Wednesday, January 14 at 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Asheville’s ministry, Lunch at the Crossroads, or to the Asheville Humane Society.
May Ronald Kent “Ron” Gough’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire kindness in the lives he touched.
