Hazelwood-Ronald “Ronnie” Ellison Sorrells, 74, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Mission Hospital-Memorial Campus. Ronnie was born in Haywood County on February 9, 1944, to the late Ellison and Mellie Byrd Sorrells. He graduated from Waynesville Township High School in 1962 and served 15 years in the National Guard. Ronnie retired from BASF as a supervisor after 35 years of faithful service. He enjoyed Tuscola Football and spending summers at Lake Chatuge. Most of all Ronnie loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Burgess Sorrells; a son, Travis Sorrells; sisters, Laverne Edwards, Hazel Pilkington, Mildred Gibbs, Betty Arrington, and Anne Guy; and brother, JD Sorrells.
Ronnie is survived by his son Alan Sorrells (Angel); brothers, Bill Sorrells (Hazel) and Otis Sorrells (Brenda); sisters Mary Rhinehart and Marilyn Guy; granddaughter, Berkley Olivia Sorrells; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Ronnie’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 16, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Kenneth Rhinehart officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
