Sally Knight Ketner

Waynesville, NC - Sally Knight Ketner, age 99, passed on February 12, 2021 at the Haywood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Cash and Callie McGaha Knight and a lifelong resident of Haywood County. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ketner who passed in 1973, an infant daughter, two sons-in-law, Ray (Cookie) Wyatt and Arthur (Dink) Cooper and all her siblings; her sisters were Mattie Killian, Nettie McElroy and Ruth Moody and her brothers were Smith and Lewis Knight.

Sally loved her home in Ketner Cove in Maggie Valley where she maintained a yard of beautiful flowers and shrubs. She grew and preserved many fruits and vegetables and she made wonderful jams and jellies from wild strawberries, blackberries and grapes. In her later years she loved shopping at yard sales and thrift stores and listening to bluegrass music. Prior to her death she was believed by her family to be the oldest living native of Maggie Valley and she would have been 100 years of age in March of this year.

Sally is survived by her daughters, Darlene (James) Killian and Ernestine Wyatt of Maggie Valley and Phyllis Cooper of Waynesville, her granddaughter, Amie Wyatt and grandson, Shane Cooper, her stepgrandsons, Kenny and Barry Cooper and her great granddaughter, Afton Bryan. Sally was deeply loved by her family and a lifetime of treasured memories will remain with them forever.

Sally's family would like to thank the staff of Haywood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care and kindness given to Sally during her time with you, especially during the Covid isolation when her family could not be with her. You will be remembered with appreciation and gratitude.

Due to Covid issues no services are planned. Interment will be at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the churches that were so kind to Sally, the First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley, Maggie United Methodist Church and Victory Baptist Church.
