Waynesville-Steven Michael “Mike” Rhinehart, 68 died on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at his residence. Mike was born in Haywood County on April 6, 1951, to the late Derry Rhinehart and Gurley Sitton Hannah. Mike enjoyed fishing, watching westerns on television, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mike retired from Lake Junaluska Assembly after 25 years of faithful service.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, Sam and Robert Rhinehart; and sisters Sally Brown, Eva Williams, Iola Hance, Gladys Dills, and Mary Phillips.
Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Woody Rhinehart; daughter, Sheila Gaddis (Steve); sons, Derry Rhinehart (Angela) and Steve Rhinehart (Melinda); sisters, Georgia Earley and Patricia Mull; grandchildren, Kimberly Hampton, Ashley Rhinehart, Felicity Rhinehart, Rebecca Rhinehart, Aaron Rhinehart, Cody Rhinehart, and Steven Gaddis; great-grandchildren, Jordan Rathbone, Brently Conner, and Paisley Hampton; and special brother-in-law, Ralph Woody.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverends Kenneth and Steve Rhinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bruce Mull, Shawn Aldridge, Brian Aldridge, Anthony Mathis, David Ward, and Kevin Conner, Zach Aldridge, and Michael Green. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
