Thelma Hendrix, 90, died on December 1, 2015, at Aston Park Health and Rehab, in Asheville, NC. Thelma was born in Olney, IL, on January 19, 1925, to the late Sanky and Vera Kiltz Young. Thelma enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, reading, and working with stained glass. She was an accomplished writer who returned to school after raising her children to become a registered nurse, working at Manatee Memorial Hospital and retiring from Swain County Hospital. Thelma championed the health and welfare of her extended family. She was also a member of Sylva United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Joseph Hendrix; five brothers and three sisters. Thelma is survived by a son, David Hendrix (Gay); two daughters, Judith Dufresne (Dan) and Janice Godek (Bob); grandchildren, Brian and Michael Dufresne, Cindy Ortiz (Mario), Christopher Felker, Bethany Croese (Miguel), Kelly Loux (Justin), Jonathan Hendrix (Margie); and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 7, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Erma Bond officiating. The family will have a private burial at WNC Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
