William Alney Leatherwood

1936 - 2016 William Alney (Bill) Leatherwood, 80, passed on peacefully Thursday, March 10th 2016 at the Brian Center Waynesville, NC as he succumbed to cancer. Bill was born in Waynesville, NC to the late Doris Jackson and Ralph Leatherwood. The late Maude Elizabeth Mehaffey, who raised and loved Bill dearly. Bill was also succeeded in death by his son, Ronnie Lee Leatherwood. Bill lived his entire life in Maggie Valley. Bill was passionate and committed to his job of 30 plus years at Ghost Town in the Sky where he worked 7 days a week as Marshal Bill Slaughter in the daily gunfights. Bill loved to hand out the empty shells and never denied a photo. In his off season, Bill loved the NY Yankees, playing cards, his guns, any western movie or reading a western book. He also loved the sport of figure skating. Bill was extremely patient, strong, kind and committed. He loved to sit on the porch and watch the clouds pass by. Bill was proud of and did love his son, Alan Leatherwood of Waynesville, daughter, Soni Leatherwood Carrier, his granddaughters, Sara Elizabeth, Anna Catherine, and Grace Caroline Carrier also of Waynesville, NC. Bill is also survived by his cousins, Kay Cochran and her son, Ronnie Cochran who both loved and cared for Bill. Bills ashes will be buried with his Aunt Maude, mother and son at Green Hill Cemetery as he wished. Donations in Bills name may be placed at Broyhill Children’s Home.
