Waynesville, NC - William "Stan" Nichols, age 60, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018. He was born in Haywood County on November 13, 1958 to Myrtle Anders Nichols and the late Leonard "Bill" Nichols.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying bear and deer hunting, fishing, horse back riding, and camping. He was an old soul who roamed these Great Smoky Mountains and he could tell you the names of every mountain, valley, and creek. He also loved digging ginseng and hunting morel mushrooms. He was a gifted musician and song writer and most of all he loved playing his banjo. He was a talented craftsman who specialized in scribed log homes. Most of all he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and all those who called him Papaw Stan.
Left to cherish his memory is loving wife of 39 years, Dianne Boyd Nichols; son Will Nichols and his wife, Crystal and daughter, Callie Nichols; grandchildren, Tanner Nichols and Sadie Nichols; sisters, Lynn Nichols and Elaine Hefner and her husband, Dennis; brother, Wayne Nichols and his wife, Paula; and his uncle, Lindon "Toot" Nichols.
The family will gather to receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm at Garrett Funeral Home.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
