TRAUERNICHT, Margaret Penn Wallace was born September 2, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Gladys Penn Wallace and S. Mayner Wallace. She graduated from Mary Institute in 1945 and went on to attend Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. After graduation, she returned to St. Louis and taught kindergarten at Mary Institute. She married Carl Trauernicht, Jr. in 1949 and devoted her life to raising three daughters.
Margaret was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. She loved her garden, her friends (especially the “Leaf Ladies”), and her family. She was admired for her impeccable taste and her exquisite needlepoint pieces. Margaret had a keen wit. She could be inscrutable, but to people closest to her, she shared the generosity of her spirit.
After recently being diagnosed with a serious illness, Margaret failed rapidly. She died quietly early on November 17, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her daughters, grandson, friends, and favorite caregivers nearby.
She is survived by three daughters – Margaret Christina Trauernicht (Donald Piktialis) of Princeton, Massachusetts; Catharine Wallace Trauernicht (Dun Scott) of Potomac, Maryland; and Cynthia Penn Trauernicht of Kirkwood, Missouri; three grandchildren – Donald S. Abbey, II (Felicia), Allison and Penn Scott; two great grandchildren – Tori and Ciati.
