Margaret “Peggy” Ledbetter (née Cushman) died Tuesday at the age of 90 after a short illness. She was born in western New York State and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Loy; her children Stephen (Keiko Ito), Edith (Tom Taylor) and Michael (Anne); three grandchildren, Sarah Larkin and Geoffrey and Alexander (Kelsey Knehans) Ledbetter; and one great-grandchild, Annabelle. Her passion for family was always there as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she was clearly devoted to helping others. When she moved to Kirkwood 56 years ago she immediately became involved in volunteer work, which inspired her for the rest of her life. Among the many organizations to which she devoted her time were The Red Cross, Food Outreach (from its inception), and St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center. She spent many years as a volunteer for Hospice and sat on the board of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region. She belonged to the Wednesday Club and Town and Country Speakers Club. In 2006, she received the “Woman of Achievement Award” for her dedication to helping others.
