

William Hooper Evans, Jr, died on Saturday November 5 from complications of pneumonia in St. Louis; he was 83. Mr. Evans was born in 1933 in Swampscott, MA, son of William Hooper Evans (1891-1976) and Dorothy Adelaide Hart (1898-1976). He grew up in St. Louis, graduated from St. Louis University in 1955 and married Marian Hayes O’Meara at St. Joseph’s Church in Clayton. He was an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1957. He earned an MA in Court Administration from the University of Denver in 1972 and was Berrien County (MI) Court Administrator 1974-1976. He worked at St. Louis’ 22nd Judicial Court from 1978 until his retirement in 2000.
Bill had a passion for automotives, taking pride in their maintenance, performance, and presentation. He was an avid student of history and politics, and was active in his church. He liked nothing better than to be surrounded by peers, friends and family to test wits about any topic under the sun; and may the best story-teller win.
He is survived by two siblings, five children, 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Melissa in 2009, and former wife Marian in 2010. His surviving children are Nancy Evans of Rockbridge County, VA, Timothy Evans of Kansas City, MO, Madeleine Sakashita of Saitama, Japan, John Evans of Columbus, OH and Peter Evans of Fairfax County, VA. He is also survived by brothers James Hart Evans of CT, and Robert Meriwether Evans of St. Louis.
SERVICE: Visitation on Thursday, Nov 17th at Gerber Chapel in Webster Groves from 4 pm - 8 pm and a Funeral Mass on Friday, Nov 18th at St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis at 11 am followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
