Catherine Conner Broussard passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026 after a brief illness. Catherine was born to Mary Louise and Dewey Joseph Conner on September 6, 1940. A Lake Arthur native, she graduated as salutatorian of her high school class and later in life, chose to become a nurse, graduating at the top of her class at the age of fifty.
Catherine was a devout Catholic and prayed her rosary daily. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, where she attended mass relentlessly. She has reached her eternal destination and is in the presence of her maker, whom she lived her life in service of.
Catherine was one of the rare people who never needed much for herself. Everything she needed was found in her love of the Lord and her family. She always placed others before herself, while being his humble and faithful servant, living her life as an example in her words and actions.
Catherine's favorite gift was to have her four children and her grandchildren all together. When her family gathered, there was no face left unkissed and no “I love you” unsaid.
“Ma”, as she was affectionately known, was the guiding light for her family. Her children regarded her as an angel on Earth. Each of them hoping that they inherited her kindness and selflessness.
She enjoyed reading and was known for her baking of bread, cakes, pies and her perfect Divinity candy. She planted a garden annually and used her vegetables to share with and cook for her family.
She is survived by her children Annette (Tommy) Fontenot, Stephanie Broussard, Byron (Rae) Broussard, and Kara (Chad) Clour. Her grandchildren, Terence, Janis, Dustin, Kendall, Ethan, Channing and Anniston. Nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of forty-four years, Warren Broussard, her four siblings, Earnest, Genevieve, Claude and Florence, and her granddaughter, Melenie Fontenot Koonce.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh, Louisiana. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026 at the funeral home until the procession leaves for the church.
