Douglas Louin Hayes passed away peacefully Friday, October 11, 2013 at his home in Roanoke LA. Doug was born and raised in Welsh, La. He graduated from Welsh High School in 1962 and from McNeese State University in 1966. Douglas was a Vietnam Veteran. He served as a 1st Lt. in the 199th Army Light Infantry Brigade. Doug received a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1968. Doug farmed for 20 yrs. and spent his last 21 years in sales at Oustalet Ford.
Doug was one of seven children born to the late Ralph and Eva Hayes. Doug will be forever remembered by his brother, Pratt Hayes and his sisters, Geneva Hebert, Mary Epperly, Johnnie Schulman, and Anne Marcantel, his beloved children, Chad Hayes and wife, Robin of Dallas, TX and Christopher Hayes of Lafayette, LA and his treasured granddaughter, Rylee Hayes of Dallas, TX and the mother of his children, Carolyn Guillory Hayes, along with countless other family and friends who were blessed to know him.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Donna Hebert of Welsh.
Doug touched the lives of many people with his smile, his generosity, and his sense of humor which he maintained to the end.
His Funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Welsh at 10am Monday, October 14. Visitation will be from 7-9pm Sunday, October 13 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh and resume 9am until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Welsh, LA.
