Epsie Lee was born November 8, 1919 in Gueydan, LA to Ellis and Alphonsine Geoffrey Duhon.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, dancing, and gardening. She was always eager to learn new things and always saw the good in everyone.
As a young woman she enjoyed going to dances where she met her future husband, J. Milton Fontenot. They were married March 24, 1941 and had five children. In recent years, she hand-quilted a quilt with all the 50 states in which she had embroidered each state’s flower and bird on it. She was an excellent cook and talented seamstress (you could show her a picture of a dress and she was able to duplicate it making her own pattern).
She is survived by sons, Robert (Bonnie) Fontenot, Kenneth Fontenot and daughter, Betty Bonnin and grandchildren, Keith Fontenot, Selena Nicholson, Joey (Diane) Bonnin and Adam (Inca) Fontenot. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Milton Fontenot, sons, Gerald and Donald Fontenot, grandson, Jason Bonnin, also her parents, Ellis and Alphonsine Geoffrey Duhon, brother, Clarence Duhon and sisters, Eula Mae Weekly and Azema Mary Hebert.
Her children remember her stories of growing up in Gueydan and Lake Arthur. They and their families always looked forward to going home to her lovingly prepared and delicious home cooked meals, especially at Thanksgiving.
Visitation will be Friday, November 14, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh with a rosary at 6:30pm. Her funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 15 at the funeral home. Deacon Rick Hinchee will officiate. Burial will follow the service at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake Arthur.
