Gretchen Cecile Bonnin

Gretchen Cecile Bonnin, 88, of Welsh, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 26, 1929 to her late parents, Winfield and Lillian Whitman in Alexandria, LA. She taught French in the Jeff Davis School system for 20 years. She was Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters. She was one of the founding members of the Welsh Museum. She is survived by her five sons, Steve Bonnin and wife Rosetta of Galveston, TX; Sam Bonnin of Eunice, LA; Scott Bonnin and wife Gayla of Durant, Oklahoma; Stuart Bonnin and wife Tammy of Gulf Breeze, Florida; John Bonnin and wife Janet of Boerne, TX; five daughters, Susan Hinchee and husband Richard of Welsh; Sarah Bingham and husband Dennis of New Iberia, LA; Sylvia deFranza and husband Brett of Suwannee, GA; Barbara Wickham of Portland, Oregon; Dottie Miller and husband Don of Demascus, Oregon; one brother, Charlie Whitman of Lake Charles; 28 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Bonnin; her parents; one brother; Don Whitman; one sister, Marjorie Stinson; along with one grandson, Jason Bonnin. Services will be at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:00am. Father Alan Trouille will officiate. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh, Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 4:00-9:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm. Visitation will resume on Monday at the funeral home from 9:00am until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Mausoleum. As a youth I spent many a day in the presence of ms Gretchen. She was such a gracious and welcoming woman. Even with such a large family there was always room for one more at the kitchen table. Too many memories to put in writing. She will be sorely missed by many. Most sincere sympathy to all of her family.

A beautiful Angel has entered God's gates. I'm so sorry to Dottie and her entire family for their loss. Mrs. Bonnin was a huge park of my childhood. She was such a kind person. She will never be forgotten.

I am very sorry to hear about Mrs Bonnin's passing and wish sincere condolences to the family. She was always very nice to everyone I ever saw her with, and had a great sense of humor in any situation. RIP to her and take comfort we will all meet on the other side again.
