

He was a lifetime resident of Welsh and a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of Korea, a member of the American Legion, a member of Knights of Columbus, former owner and operator of Welsh Quick Shop, as well as retired manager of Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh who was devoted to serving the families of Welsh in their time of loss. He was a soybean and rice farmer and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Survivors include his wife, D. Wilma Fontenot of 57 years; children, Charlotte Fontenot Champagne, Bradley W. Fontenot and wife, Louise Becnel Fontenot, Marilyn Fontenot Bachelot, Mark A. Fontenot, James K. Fontenot and wife, Paige Benoit Fontenot, Nathan Paul Fontenot and wife, Veronica Trahan Fontenot; grandkids, Logan Bachelot, Alaina Champagne, Kade Fontenot and wife, Elizabeth, Nicholas Fontenot and wife, Sara, Miranda Fontenot, Ethan Fontenot, Haleigh Bachelot, Adam Pharr, Chantelle Fontenot, Jake Pharr, Chelsea Fontenot, Chase Fontenot, Sam Armstrong, Aileen Neusetzer, Bridget Neusetzer, Jordan Fontenot and Everett Fontenot; 2 great grandchildren, Toree Fontenot and Karsyn Fontenot and sister, Theresa Joffrion. He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Eliza H. Fontenot; brothers, Milton Fontenot, Rallin Fontenot, Charles Fontenot, Herman "Bill" Fontenot, J.E. Fontenot, and sister, Vernie F. Newland.
His funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Rev. Herbert May will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. til time of service.
