Robert B. Ramagos, 69, a native of Jeanerette, LA, and a resident of Welsh, LA for over 50 years, passed away surrounded by his family at his daughter, Renee’s house in Mandeville, LA on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020. Robert is in the arms of our Heavenly Father after a 10 month battle with cancer.

Robert graduated Welsh High School in 1969. He attended Northwestern State University and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, Eta Omicron Chapter. While at NSU, he met the love of his life, Rita. After only 6 months of dating they were married on Dec. 18, 1971. 35 years after leaving NSU, he received his Associates Degree.

In 1973 he went to work for K & B Drugs in New Orleans and worked at several locations for 15 years. After he left K & B in 1987, he opened up his own convenience store, Circle R, in Welsh. In 1990, Robert was elected as the Justice of the Peace for Ward 4, District 11 and was recently re-elected for his 5th term. In 1995 he started working at Coushatta Casino Resort were he retired as a Duel Rate in 2018. Shortly thereafter, Robert started working at Jeff Davis Parish Council of Aging up until the time he got sick.

Robert loved the Lord, his family and friends, watching NSU Demon Football and the New Orleans Saints, and Mardi Gras. Robert was darn good at bbq’ing chicken, frying fish, and boiling crawfish and crabs. He never turned down a good card game or a cold beer and he loved to travel.

He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Seven Dolors and a member of the Welsh Masonic Lodge.

Robert was a loving husband, father, grandpa, cousin, and friend. He was a kind and outgoing person who never met a stranger. He will be truly missed.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents Sam “Sammy” and Joyce Ramagos, brother John; maternal grandparents Alex and Edna Nolan; paternal grandparents; and cousin-in-law Frank Jeansonne who was like a brother to him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rita; daughters Renee’ (Aaron) Boudreaux; Robin Ramagos; grandchildren: Makayla, Lucas, Shawn, and Claira; brother-in-law Paul (Betty) Young; nieces Elizabeth (Jacob) Schlachter; Emilee (Lance) Wetzel; great-nephew, Jackson, great-niece Julia Schlachter; sister-in-law Michelle Ramagos and children, Mason and Isabelle; cousins-in-law Wayne (Mary) and Ken (Janet) Jeansonne who were more like brothers to him.

We would like to thank his medical staff: Dr. Krina Patel and Dr. Muzaffar Qazilbash and all the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center as well as Dr. Michael Broussard and staff at Lake Charles Memorial.

The family will welcome friends at Hixson of Welsh, Friday, September 11, 2020 beginning at 4pm to 9pm. A Rosary will begin at 6pm followed by a Masonic service at 7pm. Visitation will resume Saturday, September 12 at 9am until time of Service. A Mass of Christian Burial led by Father Alan Trouille will begin at 1pm at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh.

Pallbearers will be: Vernon Sonnier, Billy Ponder, Randall Hill, Aaron Boudreaux, Lucas, Shawn.

To Rita and Robert’s family, it was with shock and sadness that I learned of Robert’s passing. I worked with Robert for many years at Coushatta Casino. Robert was ALWAYS congenial, helpful and of course an exemplary associate. Many guests upon arriving to play Pai Gow poker or one of the “Carnival “games that Robert loved to deal, would immediately ask for Robert if they didn’t see him. I can honestly say that I never remember a time that he was not smiling and pleasant. I am truly sorry for your loss, Rita. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolences.

I knew Mr. Robert my whole life actually. He was good friends with my grandfather, Alva LeBlanc Constable of Ward 4. My grandfather was his Constable for 27 1/2 years before he passed away December 2007. I was appointed in his place until I was elected in November 2008 as Constable under Mr. Robert. He was a joy to work with and I was glad to continue a legacy with him. When Mr. Robert had a difficult set of papers for me to serve he’d always call me and say “I got a live one for ya!” Every time I saw him he’d remind me that me and his daughter had the same name LoL. The last time I saw him was Friday Sept. 4th when I drove to Welsh to see my in laws after the storm. He was coming over the train tracks driving and waved and smiled. A good man full of spirit. He will be missed

Robert and Rita hold a very Special place in my heart. I worked for them at Circle R and was made Assistant Manager. They were like my family and helped me through hard times. Robert was the best boss and was such a pleasure to work along side with him. He always had a smile on his face and compassion for people. Prayers for Rita, Renea, Robin and all family members. RIP Robert!!

Our heartfelt prayers for Rita, their daughters and families. I've known Robert, not well and from a distance since I was a small kid. Somewhere around 2008, we became of all things, Facebook friends. You can really learn a lot about a person through their words and actions. I could tell Robert was a special fella. We quickly became good friends, sharing similar interest in classic cars, a good laugh, deep heart tugging stories, good food and yes, even a good cold beer. I already miss your messages, fella. Till we meet again, Rest in Peace, my friend. Clint Meche.....(Delilah)

When the Lord calls our loved ones home
he leaves a gift of memories in exchange.
I remember Robert and Rita making a trip to
Palm Springs, California. They not only
brought all the ingredients but made us
seafood etouffee and it was delicious! We
had such great times with Robert at our family reunions! A gentle giant! He will be missed!

So sorry for your loss, Rita, Robin, Renee & family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Love, Phyllis & Johnny Furr

Robert was so much fun! I remember meeting Robert on my first Thanksgiving as a Jeansonne. Don took me to Louisiana and we came for a visit. Robert told great stories and was so kind to me. And we all had a good laugh about the deep fried turkey.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am thankful that I will see Robert again in heaven.

Praying for you all as you navigate this difficult time. Love you cousins! Cindy and Don
