William “Bill” Heinen, 81, born May 9, 1944, in Rayne, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2026. A proud native of Roberts Cove, he came from generations of farmers and spent his life devoted to the land and the rice farming community that shaped him.
One of eight children, Bill was known for his feisty spirit, strong will, and deep passion for everything he pursued. He took great pride in his high school football days and his time in the military. He had a lasting passion for history books and documentaries, especially those on WW II.
Bill found joy in life’s simple pleasures and lasting friendships, especially through his many years of weekly golf games. Later in life, he discovered a love for Cajun dancing, becoming an accomplished dancer alongside his beloved wife, Jean. Together, they moved with a grace and connection that was a joy to watch.
A lifelong traveler, Bill had a deep curiosity about the world and a passion for experiencing new places and cultures. He was always planning his next adventure.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; his sons, William Michael Heinen (Kathy), Mark Joseph Heinen (Dana), and David Paul Heinen (Jackie); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, John Heinen Jr., Sherie Hanley, Paul Heinen, and Sandra Lavergne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Gert Heinen; his granddaughter, Alex Heinen; his great-granddaughter, Lainey Heinen; his siblings, Barry Heinen, Keith Heinen, and Debra Higginbotham; his nephew, Matt Heinen; and his niece, Libby Heinen.
