Alicia Ortiz, age 71, entered into eternal rest on October 23, 2025, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas. Born on April 29, 1954, in Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico, Alicia was the beloved daughter of Juan Ortiz and Felicitas Hinojosa.
Alicia is survived by her parents, Juan and Felicitas, and her siblings: Alfredo Ortiz, Guadalupe Ortiz, José Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz, Oralia Ortiz, and Petra Ortiz, as well as 38 cherished nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings Dora Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, Tadeo Ortiz, and Baldemar Ortiz.
At the age of 37, Alicia began working for the Salinas family, a bond that would span 34 wonderful years. Through her love, care, and devotion, she became much more than a caretaker—she became family. Alicia poured her heart into caring for Rob, Andrew, and Iliana Salinas, who lovingly came to see her as their second mother. Her kindness and wisdom made her the heart and center of the Salinas home, and the friendships she built with other housekeepers during that time became lasting sources of joy and laughter.
Alicia will be remembered for her sweet spirit, beautiful smile, and gentle humor. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing lotería and bingo, browsing garage sales, enjoying Chinese buffets, cooking her famous tamales and gorditas, and spending quiet time with her Bible and rosary. Her faith was steadfast, her generosity endless, and her love unconditional.
To those who knew her best, Alicia was “Mama”—a guiding light, a loyal friend, and a trusted confidante. She was always there with an open heart, a listening ear, and a thoughtful solution to any problem. Her compassion, humor, and steady support touched every life around her, leaving behind a legacy of love that will never fade.
Special thanks to Mayra Arriaga who helped with Alicia's care and Lupina Perez Ortiz, niece, Alicia was like a mother to her and there was so much love between the two.
Alicia Ortiz will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her warmth, laughter, and wisdom will live forever in our hearts.
