Bertha C. Balboa, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and faithful servant of God, peacefully left to be with the Lord, surrounded by the love of her family in the comfort of their home in Weslaco, Texas.
She was born on July 11, 1924, in San Carlos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and throughout her remarkable life, Bertha touched the hearts of those around her with her loving spirit, generous heart, and unwavering faith. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and togetherness, where family and friends were always welcomed with open arms and a delicious home-cooked meal. For Bertha, cooking was more than preparing food; it was one of the many ways she expressed her love and cared for those who meant so much to her.
Bertha found joy in the simple and beautiful blessings of life. She loved tending to her garden, admiring her flowers, and watching the birds that brought life and beauty to her surroundings. She especially treasured spending time with her family, whether gathered around the table, sharing a cup of coffee during merienda, or simply enjoying one another's company. These precious moments became cherished memories that her loved ones will carry in their hearts forever.
A devout Catholic, Bertha's faith was the foundation of her life. She held a deep and loving devotion to La Virgencita, Our Lady of Guadalupe, finding comfort, strength, and peace in her loving maternal presence. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother was a treasured part of her spiritual life, and she carried that faith with her in all that she did. Bertha was a true prayer warrior, faithfully lifting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and loved ones in prayer each day, asking the Lord to guide, protect, and bless them. Her prayers were among the greatest gifts she could offer, a beautiful expression of a mother's endless love and devotion. Her faith in God and her love for La Virgencita were reflected in the kindness, generosity, and compassion she showed to everyone she encountered. She lived her faith through her actions, always making others feel welcomed, cared for, and loved.
Bertha's heart extended far beyond her immediate family. She deeply loved her neighbors and was always thinking of ways to make others feel remembered and cared for. Whether sending a plate of food, sharing a thoughtful gift, or offering a kind gesture, she had a special way of making people feel loved. Her generosity came naturally, and she never needed a special occasion to brighten someone's day. To know Bertha was to experience the warmth of a woman who gave freely, loved deeply, and found happiness in bringing joy to others.
Above all, Bertha's greatest treasure was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with all her heart, taking pride in each generation and finding immeasurable joy in watching her family grow. Her love, wisdom, prayers, and traditions helped create a legacy that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. Though her family will deeply miss her comforting presence, the memories she created, the meals she lovingly prepared, and the prayers she whispered for them will remain forever close to their hearts.
Bertha is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Miguel Balboa, who preceded her in death. What a beautiful comfort it is to imagine them together again in the presence of their Lord, where there is no more sorrow, only everlasting peace and love.
Left to cherish her beautiful memory are her loving children: Bertha B. (†Americo) Cavazos, †Jesus (Esperanza) Balboa, Guadalupe (Cruz) Balboa, Fela B. (Lazaro) Olivarez, Florencia B. (Gilberto) Rivera, †Miguel A. (Maria) Balboa, Trinidad B. (†Roberto) Cavazos, San Juanita B. (Don Ed) Holmes, and Mario Esteban Balboa; along with her 26 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, who will forever treasure the love and legacy she leaves behind.
Though Bertha's hands will no longer tend to her garden, prepare meals for those she loved, or offer gifts to brighten someone's day, the seeds of love and faith she planted throughout her life will continue to blossom in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in every prayer spoken, every family gathering, every shared meal, and every act of kindness inspired by her example.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that a life so faithfully devoted to God and so generously devoted to others has reached its heavenly reward. Bertha will be remembered always for her gentle spirit, her giving heart, her unwavering faith, and the boundless love she poured into her family.
