Delfina Velasquez, age 92, of Weslaco, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 24, 1932, to Feliciano Velasquez and Reyes Castellanos, Delfina was a woman of enduring strength, deep faith, and a heart that gave endlessly to those around her.
A lifelong resident of Weslaco, Delfina dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a loving mother to her son, Robert Moreno, and a devoted caregiver to her mother, siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Delfina's selflessness was matched only by her quiet resilience—she was a steady, gentle presence who anchored her family with unconditional love and unwavering support.
She had a true gift in the kitchen and found great joy in cooking and baking for family, friends, and the many students she served during her years working in food services for Weslaco schools. Her meals nourished bodies, but her kindness fed souls. A skilled seamstress, Delfina also found peace and purpose in sewing, stitching care, and attention into everything she created.
Her love for animals, especially her cherished dogs, reflected her tender heart and nurturing spirit. And above all, Delfina’s Catholic faith was central to her life. She drew great strength from her relationship with God and lived out her faith in quiet service, prayer, and compassion.
Delfina is survived by her beloved son, Robert Moreno; her grandchildren, Yochabel, Damaris, Elika, Bianca and Robert; her sister, Evangelina Wilches; and a large and loving extended family, including her nieces and nephews: Eloy “EJ” Alaniz Jr., Cynthia Alaniz, JoElda Castillo-Alaniz, Rene Alaniz, Mary Wilches, Lucy Wilches-Hernandez, Eliza Brannon, Vincent Ochoa, Oralia Smith, George Ochoa, Manuel Velasquez, Jose Velasquez, Julian Nuñez, Jesus Velasquez, Gilberto Velasquez, Elva Velasquez, Noe Velasquez, Diana Quintanilla, Magdalena Velasquez, Sulema Velasquez, Chano Velasquez, and Amanda Velasquez.
She also leaves behind a new generation of family who adored her, including her great-nieces and nephews: Michael Alaniz, Andrew Alaniz, Ericka Herrera, Daniel Villareal, Henry Villareal, Julia Villareal, Laura Thormaehlen, Ana Castillo-Alaniz, Breanna Wilches, Eva Hernandez, Nicholas Brannon, Savannah Noyes, and many more.
Delfina was preceded in death by her parents, Feliciano and Reyes Velasquez; and her siblings: Jesus Velasquez, Maria Esther Ochoa, Guadalupe Alaniz, Pedro Velasquez, Jovita Nuñez, Feliciano Velasquez, and Gilberto Velasquez; and her great niece and nephews: Dahlia Gross, David Wilches, and Tony Velasquez.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing Delfina has entered into eternal rest, reunited with loved ones gone before her. Her legacy of service, love, and quiet strength will live on in the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
